RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A new chair of the Riverside Board of Public Utilities (RPU) was chosen at the RPU Board Meeting of March 5th.
The board voted for Ken Sutter, a retired architect and a board member since 2005, to follow outgoing chair Robert Stockton. Sutter was last year’s vice chair.
Robert Elliott, a retired San Bernardino Public Employee’s Association general manager, was chosen as vice chair. Officers of the board are selected annually.
“It’s a privilege to be on the board of one of the most professional top-notch organizations in the community,” Sutter said. “People who manage and work for RPU are constantly in front of the curve – in power, water and renewable resources.
“As board members it's simply an honor to represent our community, sort of as eyes and ears for the good things being done by Riverside Public Utilities, anytime, but especially in the coming year.”
Prominent upcoming RPU projects in 2010 include: the addition of two more natural gas-fired turbines to the Riverside Energy Resource Center for use during times of peak demand; and using recycled water to irrigate parks, golf courses and other public use facilities, reducing the drain on the city’s potable water supply.
The Board of Public Utilities is composed of nine citizens appointed to four-year terms by City Council to govern utility policies and represent the community. Citizens serve on a voluntary basis without compensation.
“Ken brings a great presence to the board,” said RPU General Manager Dave Wright. “His work for the last five years, as well as his vice chair experience, will enable the board to guide us in providing the residents of Riverside with the best power and water possible.” |
